Mythos Q&A, August 9, 2024

These are selected questions and answers from the Ask Me Anything (AMA) that Zach from Mythos Pedals does every Friday on Instagram. The questions and answers have been edited slightly to adapt them to text format and provide context. Any errors or misunderstandings are our fault. With that said, enjoy this wealth of information from Zach at Mythos!

Will Mythos make a Phaser Pedal?

Zach is interested in designing a phaser pedal for Mythos, but he hasn’t experimented with phaser circuits that much.

Zach likes MXR Phase 45’s and Univibe. There are a lot of supply chain issues going on with cadmium right now. This makes it harder to do a photocell univibe circuit.

He says one day, maybe, Mythos will have a phaser pedal. He needs to experiment with the different phaser circuits to get to know them better. He also has to research what goes into the manufacturing aspects of reliably obtaining the necessary parts to build a phaser.

When Mythos designs a new pedal, the ultimate goal is to do it right.

Is it better to set your overdrive pedal volume at unity or higher?

Zach sets his overdrive pedal to push the volume and he uses less gain than you think. He will also sometimes stack overdrive pedals. (use 2 or more overdrive pedals next to each other for added character and drive) When stacking overdrives, he doesn’t drive the gain hard. He lets his amp do the heavy lifting for gain.

Is the Mythos Argonaught better before or after a fuzz pedal?

For Zach, he thinks the Argonaught sounds best after a fuzz pedal and before an overdrive pedal.

Your mileage may vary. Experiment and you’ll find the configuration that works best for you.

Why have designers made a hot version of the Nobels ODR-1?

Zach thinks the ODR-1 design is really great. The bass can become overwhelming in certain setups. This is why you’ll sometimes see a custom ODR-1 with a bass tweak.

Zach made a tribute to the ODR-1 in the old-days called the Erlking. Customer have been asking Mythos to bring this pedal back. Stay tuned to the Pedally Mythos page when the new Erlking is released.

Is stacking a Mythos Mjolnir and Maxon OD808 into a black panel Fender amp recommended?

Zach used to use this kind of setup back when he gigged – so Yes! He would always run the Mjolnir as the base boost to get the amp really working. Then he’d run the 808 into Mjolnir. This configuration (808 into a Mjolnir) can get a little honky if you let it get out of control. Try it and have fun.

What’s the best way to stack a Mythos Mjolnir with a Chupacabra?

Run the Mjolnir into the Chupacabra.

Do you ever feel that you aren’t good at playing guitar?

Yes, every day! The best way to get out of a creative funk is to stop playing for a little while. Go do something else like play a game or read a book to reset your mind. When you come back to the guitar, you will feel fresh again.

That’s all for this week. We really thank Mythos for putting out all of the good information. If you have any questions about Mythos or any other pedals, please reach out to Pedally on our contact form.
