Mythos Q&A, April 5, 2024

These are selected questions and answers from the Ask Me Anything (AMA) that Zach from Mythos Pedals does every Friday on Instagram. The questions and answers have been edited slightly to adapt them to text format and provide context. Any errors or misunderstandings are our fault. With that said, enjoy this wealth of information from Zach at Mythos!

What is the best way to remove an odor from a guitar case?

UV Light. Try putting your case out in the sun for a couple of hours.

Which overdrive pedal would you recommend to complement a tremolo, analog delay and fuzz pedal?

A Mythos Mjolnir could work well.

You could also look at a Strymon Flint to add reverb.

Is Zach super picky about guitar intonation?

Not really. He wants it to be close enough. Overall it’s not a main worry of his. If playing in a band with another guitar player or a keyboard player, intonation becomes more important.

In a trio band situation, intonation is not something he worries much about.

Is a Chupcabra V2 coming out soon or should you buy the current pedal?

A version 2 of the Chupacabra is something that Mythos has done some work on. The project has become shelved. They may revisit an update later. There are currently no plans to release a newer version of the Chupacabra. If you are interested in the Chupacabra, buy the current pedal. It will be around for a while.

Any possibility of a Mythos Golden Fleece deluxe pedal?

Mythos is not willing to share any details about a Golden Fleece Deluxe. All Zach says is that they are working on a lot of things for this year. Mythos pedal fans will like it.

Tips on stacking a fuzz and overdrive pedal for a SRV style sound.

1) A really loud amp. The drive from SRV is a cranked Fender style amp. When combining with a fuzz, you may need to roll back the volume on your guitar. Having your volume knob up to 10 may be too much.

You have to remember that a lot of these old sounds were a lot less gain than we might realize.

If Zach was forced to change the pickups on his Les Paul, what would he choose?

Throbak pickups. Or if you are really lucky, vintage PAFs.

If money was no object, what would be Zach’s home use guitar amp? An attenuated tube amp, a digital amp, or something else?

For Zach, playing at home is all about the barrier to entry. How quickly can he enjoy the act of playing guitar? He has a Two Rock amp at home. When the family isn’t home he will crank it up and love it. Most of the time when his family is home, he’s playing his Line 6 Catalyst. He adores the Catalyst because he can plug-in, turn the knobs and have a tone that he enjoys.

Is there a tool or piece of gear that you wish existed?

Any time Zach has thought of a tool or piece of gear, after some searching he finds it. There’s nothing he could think of off the top of his head where it couldn’t be found. He is constantly surprised by the tools that already exist in the world.

When buying a Soldano SLO 30 amp do you select purple or snake skin better? Which color is better for tone?

If you want to be a boss, you have to get the snake skin.

Zach likes both but he is partial to black because in his own words, he is boring. (we disagree about Zach being boring!)
