Mythos Q&A, July 5, 2024

These are selected questions and answers from the Ask Me Anything (AMA) that Zach from Mythos Pedals does every Friday on Instagram. The questions and answers have been edited slightly to adapt them to text format and provide context. Any errors or misunderstandings are our fault. With that said, enjoy this wealth of information from Zach at Mythos!

What are you thoughts on Matchless Amps?

Zach likes Matchless guitar amps. He hasn’t spent much time with them. But every time he has, he thought they were pretty good.

Really loud amps too.

How does the Fender Vintage Deluxe amp sound compared to the Two-Rock Amps Joey Landreth Signature model?

Totally different amps. The Vintage Deluxe has much lower headroom. The Fender is a lower wattage amp. The Joey Landreth guitar amp has a different feel. The Joey amp is tighter, more immediate, different EQ, cleaner and louder. They are different animals which are both great in their own ways.

Between the two amps, Zach thinks the Vintage Deluxe is more “him”. Whereas the Joey amp sounds like Joey Landreth. Which makes sense being Joey’s signature amp.

Thoughts on the Boss Katana amps for practice at home.

For playing at home, any digital solution is great. Zach likes the Line6 Catalyst stuff (and that is what he owns), but the Katana is good too.

The best part about any of these amps is they provide a great way to get your practice sessions in.

What is the next pedal for someone who owns a Mythos Mjolnir, Golden Fleece, Olympus, Argonaught and Herculean Deluxe?

You need a Mythos Oracle or a Mythos Fates!

Does Zach like the Maxon SD-9?

Simple answer: no.

The tone knob isn’t to his liking and the pedal has a lot of gain. He has tried normal versions of the SD-9 and modded SD-9 versions.

Favorite way to stack two Klon pedals.

Zach stacks his overdrive pedals with very low gain. He used to have two Mythos Mjolnir pedals on the same board. Nowadays, Zach prefers to have different flavors of overdrive pedals when stacking them.

(Pedally note: Stacking overdrives means running one overdrive pedal straight into another overdrive. It can create blends of sounds not possible from a single pedal. But it can also get noisy and out of control if you crank high-gain pedals together)

Tips for getting a good overdrive tone at low volume.

Use some pedals! The Mythos Herculean Deluxe is a great place to start. You could also try digital modeling amps that are made to play at quiet bedroom volumes.

Any amp or attenuator that offers a headphone jack is also an option to look into.

How is the Mythos Youtube intro recorded?

The youtube intro music is from the Mythos Fates demo video.

Zach played several guitars. His PRS Silver Sky being one of them.

He ran the Fates pedal into his Universal Audio Apollo audio interface.

The NeuralDSP Tone King plugin was used as the amp simulator.

Did you know that you can run pedals into an audio interface? You can and it sounds great!

Compare the Two-Rock Burnside with the Tone King Gremlin.

Totally different amps. The Burnside is ultra loud. Think loud enough to peel the paint from your walls. It sounds good.

Zach doesn’t really like the Gremlin. He said it was his least favorite Tone King amp. Zach loves the Tone King Imperial and the Sky King. He also thinks the Tone King Royalist is great.

Thoughts on the Fender Tone Master line of amps.

Zach has tried the Fender Tone Master Twin Reverb and the Vintage Deluxe. Of these two amps, he much preferred the Twin. He thinks the Super is pretty good too.

He thought the Deluxe sounds more like a Deluxe Reissue than an original Vintage Deluxe amp.

Zach is curious about the Fend Tone Master Bassman amp. But not curious enough to buy one without first playing it.
