Based on the classic 3 transistor circuits of the golden era of fuzz, the Phoenix delivers the bite, body and sustain you’d expect.
The Phoenix has a Bender lineage with a very useable tone knob that can change the character of the clipping and help dial it in to any rig. It isn’t near as finicky as a bender style pedal can be. The noise floor on the Phoenix is possibly the quietest 3 transistor fuzz you will ever use.
The Tone control is unique in that it interacts with the final clipping stage to not only adjust the tone but also vary the clipping from symmetrical to asymmetrical, giving a wide variation in harmonic content.
The circuit is very reactive to the input signal, making the guitar volume knob an expressive gain control.
